10th Circuit Court of Appeals

Headquartered in Denver, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit is allocated twelve full-time judgeships, with all seats currently filled. The twelve active judges include three women, one Latino judge and one African-American judge. There are also eleven judges on "senior status" who do not carry full caseloads. There are ten men and one woman judge currently on senior status in the Tenth Circuit.

Tenth Circuit judgeships are allocated to each of the six states in the Circuit (CO, KS, OK, WY, UT, NM).

Recent Confirmations:
Until recently, the 10th Circuit had three vacancies. On July 8, 2013 the Senate unanimously (88-0) voted to confirm Wyoming Attorney General Gregory A. Phillips to the vacant Wyoming seat after his nomination was pending for 158 days. Both Colorado Senators voted in favor of confirmation. Then Senator Udall also issued a press release urging the Senate to fill the remaining two vacancies on the 10th Circuit.

On March 12, 2014 the Senate voted 98-0 to confirm Utah Court of Appeals Judge Carolyn B. McHugh after her nomination was pending for over 300 days. Both Colorado Senators voted in favor of this nomination.

The final seat filled in 2014 was actually a vacancy created by a retirement in January 2011. President Obama nominated Kansas Supreme Court Justice Nancy Moritz on August 1, 2013, and her nomination was confirmed by a vote of 90-3 on May 5, 2014. Both Colorado Senators voted in favor of this nomination.
